Big Chair Cruise-In, Thomasville NC
Big Chair Cruise-In 2012, Thomasville NC
First things first… If you want a good steak, you’re most likely to find it in a steak house. If you want top-of-the-line ice cream, you should probably visit an ice cream parlor. If you want to visit the classiest and most family-friendly cruises in the area, you need to talk to Uncle Benny Huff!!!
In fact, I’d encourage you to do just that by visiting his web site, www.cruisnthestreets.com, where you can also find schedules for all his local cruise-ins. In fact, I hear that my little lady herself actually gave him the nickname ‘Uncle Benny’ when we met him many years ago! That story is already written, so I’ll leave you to read it if you’d like by clicking here…
We had such a great visit to the Big Chair Cruise in Thomasville this weekend that I wanted to write about it and put in some links to the local businesses that cater to the cruisers, but first I wanted to point out that all Uncle Benny cruises are family-friendly regardless of which city you visit.
You’ll find that Uncle Benny, the cruisers, the local business owners, and really everyone you come across is glad that you brought the whole family.
The kids had a very special honor this time around… one of Uncle Benny’s friends recognized Sophie, and insisted that she and Ezra sit in his Pontiac Star Chief for a few pictures! Now, the golden rule of all car shows and cruise-ins is “Please enjoy the cars, but don’t touch them!” so an opportunity to actually sit in a classic car is a real honor!
Of course the main attraction is the cars! Cars everywhere. All makes and models, mostly classics but some newer styles as well, rat rods and motorcycles… a little something for everyone! The main event is, as you’d expect, hosted on Main Street where the majority of the cruisers will find a place to park so you can enjoy their cars.
Because it’s a cruise-in, the scenery changes all day… some new folks cruise in, a few cruise out, so you can enjoy different vehicles on this same stretch of street all day. Since this is the main destination, you’ll also see cool cars trickling in from all directions no matter which way you approach Thomasville!
We stopped into Monkeez Brew for a Grape Nehi, a Root Beer, and a Hot Chocolate about halfway through the cruise both to have a little treat as well as sit and rest for a spell. The front windows are right in the middle of the cruise, so the location is perfect and they welcome the cruisers!
We also took some time to wander through an antique store. What a fun place! This is another thing I love about the cruises… there’s really
something for the whole family, and while the cars are my favorite part of the outing, you can really make an afternoon of it and include some shopping, a sandwich from Pigs N Puddin’ BBQ, and many other things all the while surrounded by folks who love cars!
The Big Chair Cruise-In is held the 3rdSaturday of every month from May through October from 2pm-7:30pm, and is free to the public. Tell Uncle Benny that Sophie sent you!
Cheers from The ThreeFiveZero Cruisers
